Applying to graduate is a very exciting time for students. We want to ensure that you have all the information you need to successfully complete your degree on time. Please read the information below and follow the instructions carefully.

Where to Start:

Meet with your major academic advisor to review your academic record and determine the term in which you will be completing your final degree requirements.

Submitting your Application for Graduation:

If your major/minor is included on the Degree Progress Report, submit the following to the Campus Service Center within the appropriate deadline period:

1. Application for Graduation
2. Substitution Form- required for any alternate coursework you substituted for your major/minor that is not listed as an approved course for your major/minor in the CSUMB catalog.

If your major/minor is not yet included on the Degree Progress Report, submit the following to the Campus Service Center within the appropriate deadline period:

1. Application for Graduation
2. Major Requirements Summary Form- list all required coursework for your major, including substitutions. A separate Minor Requirements Summary Form signed by your minor advisor is required.

Fees are required and may be paid online, by mail or in person at the Campus Service Center when submitting the application.

All graduation forms must be typed and have original signatures. Photocopies and handwritten graduation forms will not be accepted.

What to Expect After Applying to Graduate:

After applying to graduate, you will receive your Official Graduation Evaluation via CSUMB email. Applying on time is advantageous as it may reduce the time in which you receive your evaluation.

It is your responsibility to review your Evaluation. If you have any questions, please contact your Graduation Counselor.

Making changes after you have applied to graduate:

If you have to take an alternate course for your major or minor, a Substitution Form signed by your advisor will be required.

Changing Your Graduation Date:

If you are required to change your graduation date to a future term, you will need to submit a new Application for Graduation to the Campus Service Center indicating your final semester.

The Final Degree Check:

At the end of the term in which you have applied to graduate, a final review of your academic record will be completed.

If ALL degree requirements have been met: Your degree will be awarded.

If ALL degree requirements have NOT been met: You will be notified via CSUMB email of any outstanding degree requirements with further instructions. It is recommended that you contact your Graduation Counselor with any questions upon receipt of this notice.

Diploma:

Diplomas are mailed approximately 4 months after the end of the term.
Your degree, major and honors will be reflected on the diploma. Official concentrations and minors will be reflected only on the transcripts. If you earned a double major in the same degree, you will receive one diploma.  If you earned a double major in two degrees (BA/BS) you will receive two separate diplomas.

Commencement Information:

Information pertaining to the COMMENCEMENT ceremony can be obtained on their website.
